After church we changed into warm clothes and Jimmy took us out to a baseball game. It was the best experience ever! From the time we arrived outside the park, the atmosphere was so exciting. There were guys dressed up as the Presidents and they were available for pictures.
We had such good seats, right behind the pitch. I think the best part about baseball is that it's simple to understand. There are 9 innings in a game. Each team has a turn to bat in each inning. Your turn to bat is over when three players are out, then the next team gets a chance to bat. You score points by completing a home run.
Part of the game experience is eating fried food and drinking beer. We decided to go all the way and got fries, italian sausage dogs and beer in plastic cups! It turns out beer is not so bad after all. Also had a pretzel in the shape of a "W", very salty, makes you want to drink more. In between innings there's singing and at regular intervals instructions come up on the big screen telling you what to do: "Clap clap clap" or "Get on your feet"
Since we had committed to the team and bought ourselves Washington Nationals baseball caps, we were releived that they won against the Florida Marlins 3-2. It was close for a little bit, but the Nationals pulled through.
We all had a good time, including Jimmy, who had never been out to a baseball game before, even though he watches it on TV! His sport of choice is football and that's usually the only thing he bothers to go out and get tickets for. He went out of his way to take us to the game. Jimmy is the best!
Now we're going out for dinner with auntie Vee and probably off to a reggae club after that. We need lots of energy to keep up with my aunt and her friends!

Ahoy, just wanted to know if "the Nationals" is the actual term used? Why not "the Washingtions", "Washings" or "Washers"?
ReplyDeleteBlogger.com was a little racist earlier when i tried to post a comment.
Our weather has been on and off too, but we're not letting that stop us!
ReplyDeleteYes, the team is called The Nationals, but that's how the locals refer to all their teams, e.g. the Boston Red Sox are called the Red Sox, the Florida Marlins are called the Marlins, etc. Just happens that the Washington baseball team doesn't have such a nice name.
