We had a full day once again. It's about to be 2 am and I haven't slept. Bags are packed and we're about to leave for the train station to catch a train to Boston. Since the rand doesn't go far, we're catching the cheapest train, hence the ungodly hour. We're saving around $50, which is worth it! We're hoping to be able to sleep on the train.
Today we started off at the International Spy Museum, one of the few museums in Washington that you actually have to pay an entrance fee at. There were no pictures allowed inside the museum, but the experience was memorable. Apparently Washington has the largest number of spies compared to any other city in the world. I never did realise how much spy work contributes to modern society, it's really not just something you see in the movies.
After the spy museum we had a quick bite and then carried on to the National Gallery of Art. The number of pieces on display is way too large to view in one day. We chose 2 exhibitions: 'Henry Matisse- Cutouts' and 'Impressionism to Modernism' and we saw a few other things in between. The 'Impressionism to Modernism' exhibition was most amazing. This is what I think of when I think of art: Picasso, Van Gogh, Monet, Renoir. Even if you know as little about art as I do, you can still appreciate the beauty of these works. It's a once in a life time experience to see all these great works under one roof. They were all owned by one man: Chester Dale, who donated all of them the the Washington National Gallery!
My favourite piece was Odalisque by Auguste Renoir. Google it.
After all of this it was around 16h00 and we had time for a quick turn in the sculpture garden. While there the rain started to come down and we headed for a Starbucks, before catching the subway to U street which is renowned for it's bars and clubs. We had a few cocktails, then dinner ( I don't like American food!) and by the time we got the subway back home it was 00h30! Just enough time to shower, pack and leave for the train station!

OMG Renoir is one of my favorite artists of all time! Did a project on him in French at university - such a fascinating life. Great eye Ms Saunders :D
