We've Landed!

So, over the last two days, we left the South Coast for Durban, spent Wednesday night in Durban and had a bit of a get together send off dinner with friends. On Thursday at 14h40 we left from Durban to Jo'burg and then boarded SA 207 for Dulles International. We had a 2 and a half hour stop over in Dakar, Senegal, where the crew changed over, some passengers disembarked and a few boarded. We also had a bit of a random security check. We landed at Dulles International only an hour later than scheduled. Getting through customs was much easier than anticipated. We were lucky enough to be served by a youngish black guy who was very friendly and spent most of the time laughing with us and asking us about what alcohol we were carrying. Hashanti told him Amarula was just milkshake, we had come looking for the tequila!!!

My aunt was a bit late picking us up from the airport, which is in Virginia, and a bit of a drive from her house which is in Maryland, just off Pennysylvania Avenue in a suburb called Upper Marlboro. Pennysylvania Avenue runs all the way through Washington passing through Capitol Hill, so we can't really get lost when we go sight-seeing, just follow Pennysylvania Avenue from our doorstep to the big spots!

My aunt's house is very cosy, we're sharing a room which is just above the front door, perfect spot to see who's coming and going, and it seems there will be many people coming and going while we're here. We spent the morning sitting round the kitchen table drinking coffee and talking and laughing. My aunt first told us that she can't party with us cos we're too young, then tells us she's got a welcome party planned for us tonight. A bit later her friend, who's a DJ, walked in and set up the speakers!!

So now, we have a few hours to shower and refuel before the party starts!! Here's to partying in Washington D.C.!!

just landed at no. 5407 nacy lee lane, more than 24hours after leaving durban!
